Banlung
Bokeo Market
Along Road #78 | Bokeo, Ratanakiri | About 30km east of Banlung
So I was cruising on my crappy rented scooter and we came upon Bokeo Market. I was a little hungry and my friend was a big fan of markets so we decided to check it out. We had a blast. Bokeo has a pretty small market even compared to Banlung. That makes it friendly, quiet, and not so smelly. The venders sell all the same stuff as any other market in Cambodia, just less of it.
So as we were wandering around I remembered that I needed a haircut. Found a hairdresser who wasn't afraid of cutting barang hair and went for it. The cut was fine and cost all of 2000 riel (I tried to tip her a thousand but she wouldn't take it. Refreshing...). Then my friend wanted some dessert, so we sat down and she ordered sone of that ice, bean and sweet milk stuff called "che" in Vietnamese but I dunno in Khmer. I ordered an iced coffee. Total check: 2500 riel for two yummy snacks. On the way out we grabbed a couple of spring rolls (500 riel each) that we ate at the motorcycle. So 5500 riel (less than $1.50) for lots of fun.
I speak some Khmer, but if you don't, I think with some pointing and charades, the very friendly people of Bokeo will work with you to get you what you need.
