Suk 11 Guesthouse
Sukhumvit Soi 11 | Bangkok | +66(2)2535927 | www.suk11.com | (October, 2010)
This is where I always used to stay in Bangkok. It is tucked away in an alley of an alley just off Sukhumvit in what is a great location. It's really clean and the airconditioning works well. The interior has this "we're in a Thai village" kinda look to it. Rooms start at 650 baht. Some people get put off by all the signs and regulations posted all over the guesthouse. No prostitutes, no drugs, no unregistered guests (though this isn't necessarily enforced too strictly). I don't mind, 'cause I'm a good boy. I get more put off by the staff who seems like they have been taught how to be unfriendly. They're really good at it. You'll see. There are no TVs in guestrooms, but there are common rooms that have them.
Location, location, location. This is a noisy place to stay. It's on Khao San. There's a McDonalds on the ground floor. The sky train and most of the rest of Bangkok is a hike away. There are lots of places on the street to buy souvenirs and booze. If this works for you, and USD33 is in your price range, Dang Derm could be your place.
